Kazakhstan and China to build an international railway

Almaty. March 24. Silkroadnews – In XUAR, China, akim of the East Kazakhstan region Danial Akhmetov held talks with the Chinese side on construction of the transit railway “Karamay-Tachen-Ayagoz” to connect the north-east of China, Kazakhstan, Russia and European countries, the information center of the East Kazakhstan region reports.

“Following the meeting the Kazakhstani and Chinese sides signed a memorandum on conducting preliminary studies on construction of the Bakhty-Ayagoz section of the Karamay-Tachen-Ayagoz railway, which will be part of the international main railway line”, the publication says.

The international railway is planned to connect the north-east of China, Kazakhstan, Russia and the countries of Europe. To join the project, the Kazakhstani side is to build a 270-km long “Bakhty-Ayagoz” railway.

The project will reduce the time of cargo transportation and passenger traffic from the western part of China to Kazakhstan, Russia and European countries.

According to the forecasts by the Chinese side, in case the plan is realized, the cargo traffic volume will amount to 1.85 million tonnes by 2020 and more than 3 million tonnes by 2030.
