Kazakhstan and China to reorient container freight traffic to Khorgos-Altynkol

Almaty. April 14. Silkroadnews – Kanat Alpysbayev, Chairman of the Board of JSC “National Company “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy”” (KTZ), held talks with Lu Dongfu, General Director of Chinese Railways, in Beijing, KTZ press service informed.

“K. Alpysbayev informed on the measures taken to orient the container cargo flows from the interstate transfer point of the Alashankou-Dostyk to Khorgos-Altynkol with processing in the dry port of the FEZ “Khorgos – Eastern Gate””, release published on Thursday says.

Last year the volume of transport between Kazakhstan and China exceeded 8 million tonnes of cargo, which is 16.6% higher compared to 2015. This year more than 10 million tonnes of cargo are planned for transportation through the railway border crossings of two states.

It is also noted that in 2016 the volume of container shipments from China to Europe amounted to 104.5 thousand TEU (20-foot equivalent – KazTAG), which is two times increase versus 2015. By 2020 it is planned to increase the volume of container traffic up to 800 thousand TEU.
