Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia to create competitive tariff conditions for railway carriers

Almaty. August 24. Silkroadnews – In Astana the heads of the railway administrations of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia met with shippers, carriers and freight companies of Kazakhstan to discuss the issues of mutually beneficial cooperation, press service of JSC ««NC» Kazakhstan Temir Zholy» reported.

«The meeting participants discussed a reduction of tariff rates for transportation of steel products, grain, oil, gas, commodities and container transport on the territories of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia. New logistic schemes of delivery of goods and services as offered by railway officials are to contribute to develop new markets and facilitate traffic growth», the statement says.

Deputy head of the national operator of Azerbaijan's railways Igbal Huseynov noted, his country is ready to offer Kazakhstan «good conditions» for transportation.

«We are ready to offer good conditions for transportation of export and import goods. For example, at the end of this year we open a direct crossing to Turkey through the Georgian railways. Thus, you will have an access to the southern ports of Turkey, North Africa and the Arab countries», he said.

«Soltustik» representative Anuar Khamitov informed, in his turn, that Kazakhstan plans to export grain to the countries of the Persian Gulf.

«At present we operate in Kazakhstan only. We have the largest grain harvest. Now we plan to export it to the Gulf countries. The talks are being held to agree the freight rates with the representatives of Azerbaijani and Georgian railways. We have achieved some progress in this and got some allowances and discounts», A. Khamitov said.
