Kazakhstan has ratified agreement with the EU on extended partnership and cooperation

Almaty. March 25. Silkroadnews - Kazakhstan has ratified agreement with the EU on extended partnership and cooperation, the press service of the head of state informs.

“The head of the state has signed the Law of Kazakhstan “On ratification of the extended partnership agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan, on the one hand, and the European Union and its member-countries, on the other hand,” said the statement on the Akorda website on Friday.

The purpose of the law is the creation of a modern legal framework to extend the partnership and cooperation on a wide range of issues on the basis of mutual trust and respect for the parties’ national interests.

The agreement, signed in Astana on December 21, 2015, is the fundamental document containing the basic principles of relations between Kazakhstan and the European Union and its member-countries.

The agreement contains provisions on cooperation and dialogue in the fields of foreign and security policy, trade and economics, energy, finance, science and technology, transport and logistics, environment, space, innovation and research, educational, cultural, humanitarian and other fields.

It is also expected to strengthen cooperation on issues of fight against terrorism, transnational and organized crime and corruption.

In addition, the agreement contains provisions on the establishment of intergovernmental bodies to address the pressing issues of the document. The agreement has been made given Kazakhstan’s obligations within the framework of membership in the World Trade Organization and the Eurasian Economic Union.
