Kazakhstan spends more than 30 billion tenge annually for the maintenance of prisoners
Astana. December 11. Silkroadnews - More than 30 bln tenge are annually allocated for prisoners’ maintenance in Kazakhstan jails.
"750 000 tenge per each prisoner a year is a cost of maintenance spent by the state", - said Serikbai Yerimbetov, head of the department for surveillance over observance of prisoners rights of the General Prosecutor's Office.
"We have 40 000 prisoners now. Big money is spent on their maintenance," he said.
As of December 2015 40 159 people served sentence in Kazakhstani jails.
There are 75 jails in Kazakhstan today.
