Kuwait Fund to provide Tajikistan with $25.5 million to build Kulyab-Kalaikhumb highway

Beijing. March 27. Silkroadnews - The Kuwait Fund will provide Tajikistan with $25.5 million to build the Kulyab-Kalaikhumb highway, the Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reports on Tuesday.
The project total amount is $115.50 million, of which $25.5 million (equivalent to 7.5 million Kuwaiti dinars) is the loan by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, the Finance Ministry’s secretariat reports.
The project covers the works required for the reconstruction of about 32 kilometers between Kulyab- Shurabad, and about 26 kilometers between Shkev-Kalaikhumb, with a single carriageway of 10 meters wide.
The project also includes the construction of two weighing stations, technical services provision, support for project management and advisory services, preparation of tender documentation and supervision of works.
The project total budget cost, including unforeseen circumstances and interests during the implementation period, is estimated to make around 1,30 billion somoni, of which about 870 million somoni, i.e. 84.4% of the total project cost, are provided in foreign currency. The Fund’s loan of 7.5 million Kuwaiti dinars will be about 20.8% of the total project cost.
The loan is granted for 24 years, including a grace period of 4 years, and must be repaid in 40 semi-annual installments.
The project is expected to start this year to be completed in 2022.
