Kyrgyzstan develops foster families as alternative to children’s boarding schools
Almaty. May 18. Silkroadnews – Kyrgyzstan plans developing the institute of foster (patronage) families, head of department for protection of the family and children under the Ministry of Labor and Social Development Zhanyl Dzhumabaeva reported, KyrTAG writes.
“Kyrgyzstan has a need for the foster families institute development as the best alternative to the boarding institutions. At present 8888 children live in boarding schools. We trained 47 families, and 24 of them have already started to act as patronage families”, she said.
According to her, each year the republican budget will provide for funds for foster families.
“The salary of one foster family is 6 thousand som, plus another 6 thousand som for each child. At present, 17 children are being brought up in 9 foster families”, Zh. Dzhumabayeva said.
