Kyrgyzstan forcibly relocate residents from areas with increased probability of landslides

Beijing. March 6. Silkroadnews - Local authorities in Osh and Jalal-Abad oblasts of Kyrgyzstan take measures to forcibly relocate residents from areas with increased probability of landslides, the Kyrgyz Telegraph Agency (KyrTAG) reports with reference to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic.
According to Abdisharip Bekilov, the acting head of the department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic for the Jalal-Abad oblast, 1,190 households live in landslide areas at present, of them 797 households received loan and land support from the state, yet have not resettled so far, for 393 households local authorities solve issues on the land transfer. To get ready for 180 households resettlement the authorities cut off electricity in hazardous areas. 160 families have temporarily resettled to their relatives’ places; while 20 households still remain at their places.
A special tent-based camping will be set in the Uzgen district of the Osh Region, a tent camp for 225 places will be set for temporary relocation of local residents.
To remind, in April 2017 a landslide killed 24 residents of Ayuu village in the Uzgen region of Osh.
