Kyrgyzstan hopes to join the WHO program on emergency response provision under emergency situations

Almaty. June 2. Silkroadnews – Daniyar Mukhashev, Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, held a meeting with Margaret Chan, Director-General of WHO, KyrTAG reports.

During the meeting the sides discussed the projects the WHO country office implements in Kyrgyzstan and future cooperation prospective directions. In particular, the issues of strengthening the WHO’s technical assistance to support the ongoing health reforms and special attention to control over non-communicable diseases and maternal mortality have been raised.

The parties also discussed the 69th World Health Assembly held recently, where the program of emergency assistance to ensure rapid and comprehensive support to countries and communities experienced or trying to overcome the emergencies consequences. In this context, D. Mukhashev expressed hope that Kyrgyzstan will be included in the list of countries for this program implementation, given the country’s vulnerability to emergencies.
In her turn, M. Chan assured that WHO will duly consider the proposals by the Kyrgyz side and continue cooperation in the public health field.
