Kyrgyzstan's presidential elections to be carried out using biometric passports in 2017

Almaty. October 4. Silkroadnews – Chairman of the State Registration Service (SRS) under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic Tayirbek Sarpashev and Ambassador of the French Republic to Kyrgyzstan Michael Roux discussed the issues of transition to biometric passports, e-government, implementation of the second concept of the Unified State Register of the population and the use of new electoral technologies, KyrTAG writes.

T. Sarpashev has noted the biometric passports project introduced due to assistance of South Korea.

«The practical part of work in this direction will start with the new year. The activities to replace the existing passports with the biometric ones are to start simultaneously throughout the country. The introduction of electronic passports will facilitate the transition to e-government and allow to hold presidential elections in 2017 using the biometric passports», T. Sarpashev said.

Michael Roux, in his turn, has pointed out that «France supports the introduction of new technologies in the electoral process and the transition to electronic passports».

«We believe that all the works on the transition to biometric passports and innovations within the electoral process must be successfully implemented», diplomat said.
