Kyrgyzstan’s working-age population declined

Almaty. July 13. Silkroadnews – Within recent years Kyrgyzstan’s working-age population experiences a decline, KyrTAG reports.

“There is a tendency of decrease in the population of working age to population ratio observed in Kyrgyzstan within recent years. At the beginning of 2011 this group accounted for 61.1%, in 2016 it decreased to 59.6%”, head of social and demographic statistics and labor market department under the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic Rimma Chinybaeva said on Wednesday.

She noted an increase in groups of population under and over working age.

In five years the number of people below the working age has grown from 32.3% to 33.3% to general population. A number of people over working age has increased from 6.6% to 7.1%.

“The major part of those over the working age are women, as female life expectancy is higher compared to the male one. In addition, the retirement age for women coming 5 years earlier than for men,” R. Chinybaeva added.

The working age in Kyrgyzstan is 16-58 for women and 16-63 for men.
