Kyrgyzstan to celebrate “Earth Hour” for the first time

Bishkek. March 27. Silkroadnews – Kyrgyzstan is set to take part in the worldwide environmental movement “Earth Hour” for the first time, as the “Unison” civic foundation reports.
“The worldwide “Earth Hour” campaign is set to start on the 29th of March, 2014 at 8:30 pm local time. As we were informed Kyrgyzstan is set to take part this year. The exact number of participants is yet to be determined, as preparation for the event is still underway. Bishkek, Osh, Naryn and Karakol are set to participate in the campaign”, the foundation informs.
“Earth Hour” was first launched by the WWF in Sydney in 2007. It escalated to become the worldwide environmental movement by 2008, when over 100 mln people from 35 countries took part in it. There were 126 participating countries in the world by 2009. Last year. The movement was supported by 2 bln people from 7 000 cities in 152 countries.
Schools, municipalities, institutes, public and private organizations are encouraged to switch off the light and other electronic devices for 1 hour. This is done to promote climate change agenda and increase public awareness of the problem.
