Almaty. July 17. Silkroadnews - The Kyrgyz government issued a statement in connection with the award of a citizen of the Kyrgyz Republic, who in the homeland is convicted for organizing mass riots of 2010, by the US State Department Award "Human Rights Defender", said KyrTAG.
According to the statement, a citizen of Kyrgyzstan Azimzhan Askarov by judicial authorities of the Kyrgyz Republic was sentenced for inciting ethnic hatred, organizing of mass disorder and complicity in the brutal murder of a law enforcement officer in the course of the tragic events of June 2010.
The court's decision made on the basis of available evidence irrefutable, the guilt is proved by all courts. Kyrgyzstan supports the rule of law. The judiciary is an independent branch of government, says the statement of the government of Kyrgyzstan on Friday.
"In this regard, awarding a man condemned by all courts for such serious crimes causes surprise and deep concern. After the tragic events of June 2010, the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, with the assistance of international partners conducted extensive work to restore the destroyed facilities, and the main work was aimed at strengthening inter-ethnic harmony", - said in the media.
"The decision of US Department of State to award A.Askarov does not correspond to the level of friendly relations between Kyrgyzstan and the United States and could damage the government's efforts to strengthen inter-ethnic harmony and unity of the people of the Kyrgyz Republic. Furthermore it threatens civil peace and the stability of society", - the report says.
"The government of the Kyrgyz Republic announces its intention to unilaterally denounce the agreement between the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Government of the United States of America on cooperation to facilitate the provision of assistance, signed on May 19, 1993 in Washington", - says the statement.
