Medieval tractate prepared for publication in Kazakhstan

Almaty. June 10. Silkroadnews – Kazakh linguist Batyrgali Yesenov and Gennadiy Luparev (Doctorate in Legal science) have prepared a unique tractate for publication in Russian. “Defender of the Peace” by Marsilius of Padua was published by Moscow’s Publishing House “Dashkov and Co.”
This tractate is a part of cultural heritage. It has been published in all major European languages multiple times. However, it has never been published in Russian.
“Several generations of Russian historians, philosophers, legal and religious scholars were looking forward to reading “Defender of the Peace” in Russian. However, while we were dreaming about it, Kazakhstanis were relentlessly working on its translation for many years. They almost heroically gave us translation of this medieval literary piece”, famous Russian politician Sergey Baburin said.
Marsilius of Padua was a Master Student of Paris University. In his famous tractate, he develops idea democratic reconstruction. His ideas were revolutionary for the early XIV century. He protests against political superiority of Catholic Church and advocates for secular government.
The papal office pronounced him a heretical thinker and sentenced him to death. The book was prohibited. However, German Church reformers, Italian humanists, French enlightenment activists and even founding fathers of the United States picked up on his ideas in XVI-XVIII. The ideas of Marsilius of Padua remain relevant to these days.
