Modernization of Talimarjan TPP will be completed in Uzbekistan by the end of the year
Almaty. April 12. Silkroadnews – By the end of 2016 JSC “Uzbekenergo” will complete the $940.46 million worth modernization of Talimarjan thermal power plant (Kashkadarya region, south of Uzbekistan), Trend reports.
“The completion of the project in December this year has been driven by the decree of the president of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov,” the publication says.
At present there are assembly works carried on the exhaust heat waste boiler blocks, auxiliary equipment of the gas turbine and lower part of the steam turbine, as well as preparatory works for the installation of steam turbine generator and assembly of power transformers within the framework of “Talimarjan TPP expansion with the construction of two combined cycle power plants with a capacity of 450 megawatts” project. The steam turbine generators have been delivered to the platform for the combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT) CCGT-1, CCGT-2 along with the gas turbine for CCGT-1.
In 2013 Uzbekistan launched a project to modernize the Talimarjan TPP with the construction of two combined cycle gas turbines with capacity of 450 MW each. The project realization shall increase the thermal power plant’s installed capacity up to 1.6 thousand MW.
The project is financed on account of loan funds provided by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the amount of $350 million, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) – $300 million, Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan – $240.86 million, and funds of “Uzbekenergo”.
The Talimarjan TPP first power generator unit with capacity of 800 MW was put into operation in 2004. Today the power plant provides 4.6 billion kW/h of electricity per year at the fuel consumption rate of 314 grams per kilowatt/hour.
As soon as two CCGT units are put into operation, the production shall increase from 4.6 to 10.4 billion kW/hour, with the power plant efficiency growing from 38% to 58%.
