More than 216 thousand tourists visited Tibet in four days of holiday

Beijing. February 21. Silkroadnews - Southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region received about 216,400 tourists from home and abroad from Feb. 15 to Feb. 18, the first four days of the week-long Chinese Lunar New Year holiday, up 30.7 percent compared to the same period last year, Internet portal Tibetol.cn wrote.
According to the tourism development committee, tourism revenues reached 159 million yuan ($25 million) in four days of the holiday, which is a 14.7% increase compared to the same period last year.
This year the Lunar New Year or Spring Festival coincided with the Tibetan New Year celebrated last Friday.
The regional government has launched a program to develop winter tourism, offering free admission to 115 major tourist attractions in the region, including the famous Potala Palace, from February 1 to April 30, plus preferential fares for hotel accommodation, use of local transport, flights and rail travel.
