Almaty. October 26. Silkroadnews - More than 50 people were killed in a powerful earthquake in Pakistan and Afghanistan, reported the agency TASS.
About 35 people were killed in different parts of Pakistan as a result of the powerful earthquake that affected more than 300 people. Most of them were victims of the collapse of residential buildings.
In Islamabad damaged multiple links. In Abbottabad tremors caused landslides.
Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has instructed all online services to mobilize available resources to localize the effects of the earthquake. By order of the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan Rahila Sharif soldiers sent to the affected areas to provide assistance to the civilian population.
Meanwhile in Afghanistan, victims of the earthquake, according to preliminary data, became 21 people including 12 children, more than 100 people were injured.
In addition, two Indian military were injured in Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir where the earthquake hit the bunker in which they were located.
As recalled by the agency, the earthquake occurred this afternoon. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake lies at a depth of 196 km in the Hindu Kush mountains, 82 km to the southeast of Feyzabad, and Afghanistan at a distance of 67 km from Chitral Pakistan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa). Underground shocks of varying strength was felt in Central and most of South Asia, particularly in India, Tajikistan, Nepal.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Service, the earthquake magnitude was 8.1. European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre and the US Geological Survey estimated the magnitude at 7.5.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan in the next 24 hours there is a strong possibility of new powerful aftershocks.
