Mudslide claims over 2 000 lives in Afghanistan

Almaty. May 4. Silkroadnews – Mudslide in North-Eastern Afghanistan claimed around 2 100 lives, as Russian BBC service reports.
The tragedy took place in the North Eastern Afghan Province of Badakhshan last Friday. There is a limited access to the place due to the nature of mountain area. Relatively big for this area settlement has been buried under the layer of mud and stones. It happened after the mountain started sliding down during a heavy rain.
“All 300 families or over 2 100 people have died”, as the Provincial Administration’s spokesperson said. Provincial authorities are cautious about further mudslides in the area. Around 4 000 people have been evacuated from the area.
