“China has one of lowest murder rates in the world according to the latest figures released. In 2016, the rate stood at 0.62 per 100,000 people in 2016. In the same year the number of cases of serious violent crime in China fell 43% compared with 2012, serious traffic accidents fell 56% over the same period, and the people's level of satisfaction with the security situation rose to 91.6%, up from 87.55% over four years,” the report said.
It is noted that the data were presented by the head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Meng Jianzhu, in the course of the National Conference of Comprehensive Governance of Public Security held in Beijing.
“Commenting on the figures, Meng said that the overall situation of society continued to be stable through unremitting efforts. He said that economic risk, deep changes in society, the rapid development of modern science and technology, and the demands of the people for higher living standards had increased the difficulty of social governance. To promote social governance to a new level, Meng Jianzhu advocated the enhancement of the concept, improvements to the mechanism and further innovation,” the publication notes.
