NATO to open office in Tashkent

Tashkent. May 14. Silkroadnews – NATO is to officially launch its Central Asian Bureau in Tashkent on the 16th of May 2014, as UzTAG reports.
“NATO Secretary’s General Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai, Ambassadors of NATO member-countries to Uzbekistan, Ambassadors of Central Asian countries to Uzbekistan as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other Uzbek Ministries are invited to the launch ceremony”, the message states this Wednesday.
NATO official acts as a locally-stationed diplomatic representative and facilitates practical cooperation between NATO and Central Asia in various fields. This includes defence planning and analysis, support of NATO operations, military education and training, civil emergency planning, scientific and environmental cooperation and public diplomacy.
The first Central Asian partner to host a NATO official of this kind.
