Nazarbayev expects “Asian Century” to come soon

Astana. May 4. Silkroadnews – “Experts estimate over half of the world trade, investment and global GDP to be originating in Asia by 2050. Those trends will be accompanied by accelerated speed of urbanisation, increase in speed capacity and conglomerate formations. This scenario predisposes that the region will start blooming. The Asian Century is coming”, Nazarbayev said at the ADB’s AGM during its opening ceremony.
He says it is a new period of the Silk Road rebirth which is characterised by the epoch of Asia’s development. As he says, there are certain prerequisites for that in the world now.
“(…) it is the most dynamically developing region now that brings together China, India, Japan, Korea and other developing Asian countries. It is also the most populated area of the world that forms the basis of consumer demand”, he explained.
Nazarbayev also touched upon “Western Europe –Western China” transport corridor construction. This corridor is a part of a big “Kazakhstan – New Silk Road” Project that aims at 10-fold increase in transit-carriers through the territory of the country by 2050.
“This mega-project is aimed at creation of a modern transport and logistics system that would enable an efficient freight delivery channel that utilises all the transport modes on the territory of Kazakhstan”, Kazakh President said.
The new 1 500 km railway that spreads from Chinese border all the way to Caspian Sea via Turkmenistan, Iran and the Persian Gulf is to be completed next year. He says “It is truly the Silk Road that used to exist”.
“The Silk Road rebirth with facilitate development, political stability, evolution and peace process in all the countries along its route”, Nazarbayev concluded.
