Nazarbayev offers to transfer 1% of the defense budget of the countries to the United Nations special fund for sustainable development

Almaty. September 28. Silkroadnews - Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev in New York took part in the UN Summit on the adoption of the agenda for development beyond 2015, informed the press service of the head of state.
"During the summit, discussed the results of the measures for the implementation of the Millennium Declaration, which sets out the basic aims and objectives of the development up to 2015 and beyond 2015 ", - stated in a message on the site of Akorda.
Addressing the gathering, the President of Kazakhstan emphasized that Kazakhstan has made significant progress in the implementation of eight Millennium Development Goals.
Besides, N. Nazarbayev touched upon the issues of uneven progress in different parts of the world.
"The negative trend is exacerbated by the conflicts in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. The current immigration crisis is due the war and the development of imbalances. In the XXI century the successful countries will not distinguish the arsenals of weapons but the ability to generate innovative ideas and creating attractive orbit. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, in 2014 the combined military spending of all nations exceeded $1.7 trillion, or about 2.3% of global GDP",- said the President of Kazakhstan.
In this regard, the President once again put forward a proposal of the annual transfer from each state of one percent of its defense budget to a special fund of the United Nations on sustainable development.
At the end, the President of Kazakhstan emphasized that current events are a good opportunity to bring together for the common long-term future.
