Almaty. August 3. Silkroadnews – News sites are blocked in Tajikistan, TajikTA reports.

“Communications Service under the Government of Tajikistan denies its involvement in blocking information sites within the country”, Jonibek Dadomatov, the head of the department for communications regulation at the Communications Service under the Government of Tajikistan, said when meeting with journalists in Dushanbe.

According to him, up to date more than a hundred sites of the violent or pornographic nature have been closed or blocked.

It has been noted, though, J. Dadomatov could not explain the reasons behind the media information sites blocking.

“Journalists and representatives of news agencies that have been blocked asked why they did not get responses to their official letters submitted in this regard more than a month ago. J. Dadomatov only noted the department for communications regulation has not received these letters which probably got into other departments of communication services. He also noted his department did not give internet service providers any instructions to block the republic’s information sites”, the report says.

It is reported that representatives of Tajikistan’s communication say they have no data on the number of news sites blocked.

“Officials from the communication service emphasized they had no information on the number of websites blocked and only mentioned these might be technical problems in case”, the publication says.

The site of the Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) is also reported to be among the major news sites of Tajikistan blocked for the past several months for unknown reasons.
