No improvement observed on situation on the Kyrgyz-Kazakhstani border; passing rate is 1 vehicle per hour

Almaty. October 17. Silkroadnews - The situation on the Kyrgyz-Kazakhstani border is not improving; passing rate is one vehicle per hour, the Kyrgyz Telegraph Agency (KyrTAG) with reference to the state border service of the Kyrgyz Republic.
“As of 0:08 a.m. on October 17, there are more than 150 people waiting in line at the Ak-Zhol checkpoint, the number of people is expected to increase with each hour. More than 130 trucks gathered at the checkpoint “Ak-Tilek”. At night, Kazakhstani colleagues raised the passing rate, yet by morning started to pass a vehicle per hour. About 30 vehicles are waiting for a pass at the checkpoint “Chon-Kapka” in the Talas region at the moment,” the press service of the border service informed.
As previously reported, the Kyrgyz-Kazakhstani relations have become aggravated after President Atambayev’s tough remarks on Kazakhstan and its leader.
Since October 10, Kazakhstan has strengthened the control at the border. Within a day, the congestion at the border reaches up to 500 people and 500-600 vehicles.
To remind, a 70-year-old citizen of Kazakhstan died after a five-hour standing in line at the border checkpoint last week.
