Almaty. September 15. Silkroadnews – North Korea launched another ballistic missile across Japan, BBC reported.
“North Korea has fired a ballistic missile across Japan, creating new tension in the region after its nuclear bomb test less than two weeks ago,” the report said.
According to the South Korea’s military, the missile reached an estimated altitude of about 770km and crossed 3,700 km before landed in the sea near Hokkaido.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said his country would not tolerate such actions by North Korea. “If North Korea continues to walk this road, there will be no bright future,” The Guardian is quoted him saying.
A few minutes after the launch by the DPRK, South Korea, in its turn, also fired two ballistic missiles into the sea, simulating attack on the North Korea. South Korean President Moon Jae-in held an emergency meeting with the National Security Council and warned that the test would mean further diplomatic and economic isolation for North Korea.
The South Korean military say, the launch was made from the airfield of Sunan north of Pyongyang around 07:00 local time (22:00 GMT on Thursday).
As with the previous launch, the missile flew over the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido before falling into the Pacific Ocean. Sirens sounded across the region, people were warned to descend into shelters.
According to preliminary estimates, this time the missile altitude and distance exceeded those ones of the launch on August 29, which Pyongyang said was the first move in its military operations in the Pacific.
“Observers say it is likely to have been an intermediate range ballistic missile (IRBM) though Japanese officials believe there is still a possibility it was an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). What is so alarming about the new launch is that the US Pacific territory of Guam, which North Korea says it has plans to fire missiles towards, is 3,400km from Pyongyang, putting it within range of the latest missile,” the publication reads.
Japan’s chief cabinet secretary Yoshihide Suga said there had been no reports of damage to aircraft or ships. At the request of Japan and the U.S. the United Nations security council will hold an emergency meeting in New York on Friday.
North Korea, which insists that it needs a nuclear and weapons program to ensure the nation’s survival, has repeatedly launched missiles over the recent months, regardless of the UN sanctions. New UN sanctions have recently been imposed on North Korea’s several remaining international trade ties, though, it seems, could not halt the development of North Korea’s weapons and missile launches. On Thursday, the DPRK threatened to “sink Japan and turn America into ashes.”
