North-South corridor will allow central Afghanistan to escape the geographic isolation

Almaty. January 31. Silkroadnews – As soon as construction of the North-South corridor passing through the central regions of Afghanistan is completed, the most of the transport, trade and economic problems of the region will be solved, thus, it will escape the geographic isolation, such an opinion was expressed by Mehdi Rohani, the Ministry of Public works spokesman, Afghan News Agency (AfTAG) reports.

According to him, the third phase of construction from Yakawlang to Kandahar will start after the completion of the second phase of the corridor construction from Dar-I-Suf district in the province of Samangan to Yakawlang district in Bamyan province.

M. Rohani also explained that after completion of the second section the technical studies will begin to start work on the third 550-km section also support by ADB.

According to the spokesman, the construction of North-South corridor is of great economic and transit importance for the central regions of Afghanistan, as it will allow the regions to escape the geographical isolation. In addition, this road is of great importance for transit carried out throughout Central and South Asia.

The total length of the route from Balkh to Kandahar will be 825 km. At present the construction of the first 97-km section, $100 million worth, from Balkh to Dara-I-Suf in Samangan is completed.

Construction of the second section from Dara-I-Suf to Yakawlang, which length exceeds 178 kilometers, will cost $204 million and is carried out by the Chinese construction company.
