November 16 will be declared as President’s Day in Tajikistan

Date: 20:19, 15-04-2016.

Almaty. April 15. Silkroadnews – Tajikistan’s parliament approved a new holiday – the Day of the President, Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reported on Friday.

“The new holiday in the Tajikistan’s calendar – President’s Day – was approved on April 15 at the session of the lower house of Parliament. From now on this date will be celebrated every year on November 16, without a public holiday,” said representative of the house of Parliament on Friday.

“The date is not related to the personality. It does not contradict the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan and other laws, does not require any additional costs,” said a member of the Committee on Legislation and Human Rights Mavluda Kalandarzoda.

It is not a mere chance that the date of November 16 was chosen – the XVI session of the Supreme Council of the Republic was opened in Khujand on this very day back in 1992. On November 19, 1992, Emomali Rahmon was selected to head the Supreme Council of the Republic of Tajikistan, and two years later he led the republic having won the presidential election.

To remind, within the framework of the law “On the founder of peace and national unity – the Leader of the Nation” E. Rahmon was awarded the title “Leader of the Nation” last December.
