Only 1 Kyrgyz orphan provided with accommodation in 20 years
Bishkek. April 15. Silkroadnews – Only one Kyrgyz orphan has been provided with accommodation upon leaving the orphanage in 20 years. This was revealed by the director of the organisation for protection of orphans, Igor Belyayev, during his presentation to the Parliament.
The country has been independent for over 20 years now, but since then none of the orphan issues were sold. Orphans don’t have anywhere to go upon leaving their orphanages and they end up involved in criminal activities as a consequence. The rights of those orphans are violated, they are not getting a proper welfare support and no one helps them with employment, as Belyayev says.
He reminds that the country has 117 orphanages.
“I am an orphan myself. I had just 20 soms (USD 0.4) in my pocket, when I left the orphanages. We were homeless in our own country. Is it really that difficult for the government to provide some buildings, where orphans could live when the leave their orphanages?”, Mister Belyayev suggested.
