Outbreak of legionellosis is recorded in EU countries

Almaty. November 9. Silkroadnews - Outbreak of legionellosis is recorded in the European Union, the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (KazTAG) reports with reference to Rospotrebnadzor.
Health authorities of Mallorca (Spain) reported on 13 cases of legionellosis registered among tourists staying at one of the hotels in Palmanova in the period from mid-September to the first ten days of October this year and at least one death of a British citizen in this regard, agency wrote on its website on Thursday.
Reportedly the causative agent of the infection was detected in the environmental samples taken at the hotel. Its in-depth study is being conducted at present.
On November 9 the Ministry of Health of Portugal confirmed the outbreak of legionellosis in a hospital in Lisbon, where the disease was detected among 26 patients and 2 hospital employees. This is the biggest outbreak of legionellosis recorded in Portugal in recent years. It is expected new cases can be revealed. An investigation into the causes of the outbreak has begun. The shortcomings in the operation of the water supply system of the medical organization are said among the probable causes of disease.
Legionellosis infection is an acute infectious disease characterized by fever, severe bilateral pneumonia, central nervous system and digestive system involvement.
