Over 10 mln ha of croplands not utilised in Kazakhstan

Astana. April 23. Silkroadnews - 10 mln ha of potential croplands are not used in Kazakhstan. In addition, water resources are not utilised efficiently, as Majilis MP Tursunbek Omurzakov informs.
“Almost 1/3rd of all agricultural lands in Kazakhstan is in dreadful condition. Over 10 mln ha of croplands are abandoned. Considerable amount of rented lands is not used for the primary purposes”, Mister Omurzakov appeals to the PM.
The MP also mentioned that water resources are not efficiency utilised (when irrigating the lands) either.
“The water shortage expected by 2050 is estimated at 15 bln cubic metres”, he explains. He calls the government to start working on the project that would help to utilise agricultural and water resources more efficiently.
