Over the years of independence Kyrgyzstan has received more than $8 billion aid from international financial institutions

Almaty. July 21. Silkroadnews – Following independence Kyrgyzstan has received loans and grants to the amount of more than $8.2 billion from international financial institutions, KyrTAG informs.

“The government program “Trust and unity”, based on the National strategy for 2013-2017 Kyrgyzstan’s sustainable development, meets the new challenges and opportunities in the framework of accession to the EEU. The program, at the same time, retains continuity with the previously made important decisions and is aimed to implement the priority directions of Kyrgyzstan’s development”, Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbai Jeenbekov said at the meeting of the Coordinating Council of the Kyrgyz government for cooperation with the development partners (international financial institutions, donors) on Thursday.

He also noted, the government is committed to the international obligations of Kyrgyzstan.

“Since Kyrgyzstan gained independence we have signed 354 loan and grant agreements with international financial institutions (IFIs) and donor-countries. During the above period the total amount of aid from the IFI and donor countries amounted to $8 280 400 000, out of which $6.2 billion (i.e. 75% of total funding) accounted for loans and $2 billion (i.e. 25%) were received as grants”, Prime Minister said.

According to him, these funds have been used for projects in the social fields and various economic sectors, including education, health, transportation, agriculture, energy. Significant funds were obtained to support the budget, these funds were also directed to develop the social sphere and reduce the negative impact of international crises, challenges and risks.
