Almaty. August 2. Silkroadnews – Pakistan has completed “Bab-e-Pakistan” checkpoint construction on the border with Afghanistan, TASS reports.

“The building, located in the area of Torkham Pass, shall contribute to further strengthening of Afghanistan-Pakistan border security and prevent illegal infiltration from Afghanistan to Pakistan groups of smugglers, refugees and militants”, the publication says.

It is also noted, the construction of additional infrastructure enhancing border security at the site began this June. Such measures by Pakistani authorities caused discontent by Afghanistan that have accused the neighbor of trying to establish control over “de facto Afghan territory”.

Exchange of fire took place between the frontier guards of Afghan and Pakistani sides during the construction works. Additional army units and tanks have been pulled in to a place of conflict.

Pakistani authorities insisted that all engineering structures are built entirely on their territory with only purpose to combat illegal cross-border movement.
