Peak seismic activity awaits Kyrgyzstan in the next 2 years - expert KR

Almaty. August 25. Silkroadnews - Kyrgyzstan in the next two years is expecting peak in seismic activity, according to KyrTAG with reference to the Director of the Institute of Seismology, National Academy of Sciences, Kanat Abdrahmatov on Monday.
According to him, Kyrgyzstan is at a new phase of seismic activity, which began after a lull, which lasted for 6-7 months.
"This means that we are approaching the peak of seismic activity that can lead to a powerful earthquake in the south and in the north of the country. Their strength can reach 6-7 ", - he added.
K.Abdrahmatov noted that seismic quiescence, which occurred from January 2014, was a cause for concern.
"According to scientific data, in Kyrgyzstan phase seismic activity is observed from 2008 to 2016", - he added.
As the head of the institute, seismic quiescence was interrupted by a strong earthquake on August 21, on the territory of Issyk-Kul region.
