President of Afghanistan signed a decree on electronic identity cards

Almaty. May 15. Silkroadnews – Afghan President Ashraf Ghani signed a decree on electronic identity cards, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.

The Population Registration Department is responsible for the process realization, while the Ministries of Internal Affairs, Communications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Finance are instructed to provide the appropriate equipment and facilities for this process.

According to the statement, the financial and executive part of the population registration department will be managed by a well-known international organization.

The operational plan for the first stage of the process should be executed within three months after the signing of the decree, the resolution specified.

The decree also requires all the state institutions to ensure general cooperation within realization of the project, as well as obliges the registration department to report to the presidential office and the Ministry of Finance on the progress achieved.

It is also reported, the control over the process will be carried out by the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah and second vice-president Sarwar Danish.
