President of Iran called on Muslims to unite in fight against extremism
Almaty. December 7. Silkroadnews - The Iranian president called on Muslims to unite in the fight against extremism, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reported referring to Tasnim News Agency.
“In messages on the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani hoped for strong bonds and unity among the Muslim nations, saying the Islamic world’s concerted action would contribute to peace and help counter extremism,” the publication reads.
President Rouhani sent the leaders of Muslim countries congratulations on the auspicious occasion, which falls on the 17th day of the lunar month of Rabi al-Awwal.
“In his messages, the Iranian president expressed the hope that Muslims would refer to the great Prophet’s way of life and to the teachings of holy Quran to strengthen unity and fraternity and portray the true image of Islam to the world,” the agency reported.
President Rouhani added, Muslims must resist the ideas of extremism to work in close cooperation with the struggle against violence and extremism.
He also stressed that the unity of Muslims would contribute to justice, peace, tranquility and stability not only in the Islamic world, but throughout the world.
The 17th day of the month of Rabi al-Awwal on the lunar Hijri calendar marks the anniversaries of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad and Imam Jafar Sadeq, the sixth imam of the Shiites.
A holy holiday is celebrated by some 1.8 billion followers of Islam, which is about a quarter of the world’s population.
