President of Iran promised to build 30,000 houses in earthquake-affected areas
Almaty. November 16. Silkroadnews - The president of Iran promised to build 30,000 houses in earthquake-hit areas, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) with reference to Fars news agency.
“11,000 rural houses and 4,500 urban residential units have been destroyed by the quake and we need to build 30,000 houses,” Rouhani said.
He added that gratuitous aid will be allocated for temporary accommodation and settlement of the people, the victims will be granted loans for purchase of permanent housing.
To remind, a quake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale occurred near the western border of Iran with Iraq on Sunday. More than 530 people were killed, 7 718 were injured. Some of the wounded were taken to Tehran by C-130 aircraft provided by the Iranian Red Crescent. In addition, more than 40 tonnes of medicines and other assistance were delivered to the affected area by Boeing 747.
10,000 tents, 20,000 blankets and 185,000 canned food have been distributed among people affected.
70% of damaged electrical networks and water pipes have been restored.
“The historical monuments have sustained 20% damage and can be mended and restored, and expressed relief that the artifacts being kept at the museums in both provinces have remained unharmed,” the publication says.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in his tweet appreciated foreign countries for their sympathy and readiness to help the regions affected by the earthquake.
