Almaty. August 29. Silkroadnews – Uzbek President Islam Karimov has been taken to hospital for inpatient treatment, the governmental portal of the Republic reports.

«The Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan reports that the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov has been hospitalized», the statement says.

According to the experts, a full medical examination and after-treatment will take a certain period of time.

Meanwhile, the media have named a possible successor to 78-year-old leader of Uzbekistan.

«There will be no problems with the successor. He had long been determined. My version is that the future Uzbek leader is the current Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyayev. He is close to the President's family and has the highest position in the elite groups. However, if the change of ruler will be held in accordance with the Constitution, the chairman of the Uzbek senate will become the country's president, yet he is not a public or political personality», Russian media quoted chief editor of the portal «Fergana.ru» Daniel Karimov saying.

I. Karimov has been a leader of Uzbekistan since 1989. Earlier he was expected to take part in celebration of the 25th anniversary of independence to be held in Tashkent on September 1.
