Residents of Kemin region pressing “Altynken” gold company for yearly USD 13 million as environmental damages
Bishkek. March 14. Silkroadnews – Residents of Kemin Region in Chu Province are pressing “Altynken” gold company for yearly USD 13 million of environmental damages caused by its company development of the gold mine Taldy-Bulak. It was reported by Emil Beyshenaliev, the deputy Mayor of Orlovka, when he participated in the session of social-democratic party faction.
The USD 13 million would be divided between 13 local municipalities, residents proposed.
The leader of the social democratic faction, Chynybay Tursunbekov, agreed that this kind of pressure is bad for investment climate.
“They (investors) are paying taxes, make social payments. What else does the company need to pay for? If it is to continue the economy will collapse”, said Mister Tursunbekov.
As Mister Van Gan of “Altynken” confirmed, the company has already made social payments of USD 350 000 to 4 villages. It has also donated USD 300 000 to the regional development fund.
Southbank Taldy-Bulak is one of the most profitable gold mines in Kyrgystan 60%b of “Altynken” belongs to Superb Pacific Limited, a subsidiary of Zijin Mining.
