Russia and China intend to jointly explore Mars and the Moon
Almaty. April 25. Silkroadnews – Within the framework of space cooperation Russia and China can go for the joint projects on the other planets exploration, the head of the state corporation Roscosmos Igor Komarov said at the celebration of the first China Cosmonautics Day at the Beijing Aerospace University, TASS reports.
“We started to discuss the joint projects in the exploration of other planets. There is an interest in our Martian project jointly with the European Space Agency. We discuss with our Chinese colleagues what may be useful for them in our experiments, and what can be useful for us in their work. In other words, we work on bilateral rapprochement, consideration of joint opportunities, both on our and their lunar programs. We are actively working on in the exploration of Mars and the Moon,” he said.
I. Komarov also said that at present there is no agreement with Beijing on the joint projects in the framework of the ISS, meanwhile the consultations are being held on the possibilities of cooperation in the field of manned space programs and in earth orbit.
“It is early to speak on the specific results. These are the long-running topics and we will work on them,” the head of the state corporation also added.
I. Komarov also pointed out that the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) consider the possibility of exchange the remote sensing data to improve the joint response capacity to disasters and catastrophes.
“The initiative, which we are working together with the BRICS countries now, is the exchange of data on remote sensing of the Earth allowing prompter response to the emergencies, disasters, pollution and other aspects. I believe it can become of quick and necessary practical use for the BRICS countries,” he said.
China’s Cosmonautics Day was established in 2016 and dedicated to the first successful launch of China’s artificial earth satellite “Dongfanghong I” on April 24, 1970.
