Russia has written off Uzbekistan’s debt in the amount of $865 million

Almaty. April 6. Silkroadnews - Russian President Vladimir Putin wrote off Uzbekistan’s debt of $865 million, meaning Russia has fulfilled its part of the agreement signed in 2014, RBC reports.

“The decree, signed by Vladimir Putin on April 5, ratified the agreement between Russia and Uzbekistan on the settlement of mutual financial claims and liabilities, which was signed in Tashkent on December 10, 2014,” says the publication with reference to the official Internet portal of legal information.

Signed in 2014 in Tashkent, the contract provided for the refusal of Russia and Uzbekistan from the mutual claims. The debt in case is related to the loans that Uzbekistan received back in 1992-1993, and the interest amounted to $388 million.

Uzbekistan, in due course, renounces claim to the share in the Diamond Fund of the former USSR. In addition, within a month after the document enters into force Tashkent shall transfer to Moscow $25 million.
In 2014, the Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said the journalists the decision to write off Uzbekistan’s debt should open up opportunities for the supply of Russian military equipment under the new loans in this country.
