Almaty. August 9. Silkroadnews – In 2016 Russia may begin construction of two more nuclear reactors at the Bushehr site in Iran, TASS reports.

“Russia may start $10 billion worth construction of two more power units at “Bushehr” NPP. Construction can begin almost immediately after presidents’ meeting in Baku on Monday (August 8)”, the agency quoted Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi saying.

The nuclear power plant operating in Bushehr province was built by the Russian specialists in accordance with the contract signed between Iran and Russia in 1995. In August 2012 the nuclear power plant started full-power operation. The International Atomic Energy Agency monitors closely the plant operation.

The works on the new nuclear reactors construction were scheduled to start in March of this year. In early May a source in Rosatom reported that Russia expects to start engineering design works for “Bushehr-2” nuclear power plant before the end of 2016 after the site parameters are approved by the customer.

The beginning of the third unit construction is scheduled for the next two years. The total investments into the project are estimated as $11 billion.

In early 2014 Moscow and Tehran have signed a package of agreements on construction of eight nuclear reactors in Iran.
