Russia refuses to buy electricity from the future Kazakhstani NPP in Kurchatov

Almaty. February 22. Silkroadnews - Russia refuses to buy electricity from the future Kazakhstani nuclear power plant (NPP) planned to be built in the city of Kurchatov, East Kazakhstan region, the information on the performance results of the Kazakhstani Ministry of Energy (ME) for 2015 and tasks for 2016 reports, KazTAG informs.
“Due to refusal by the Russian side to buy electricity from the future NPP (in Kurchatov - Silkroadnews) the issue of sales of the future nuclear power plant electric energy came up,” - the document states.    
To extend the cooperation between JSC ““NAC” “Kazatomprom”” and the Russian state nuclear corporation “Rosatom” in the field of design, construction, operational commissioning, operation and decommissioning of the nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan by the Russian party, as reminded, on May 29, 2014, “Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation on the construction of nuclear power plants on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan” was signed.
Later on September 30, 2014, within the framework of XI Forum of interregional cooperation between the two countries, the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the General Director of State Corporation “Rosatom” initialed a draft agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and Russia on cooperation in the construction and operation of nuclear power plants on the territory of Kazakhstan.    
“The draft agreement initialed between the Kazakhstani and the Russian sides has been amended to specify the agreement content. The full-scale negotiations with the representatives of the State Corporation “Rosatom” have been carried out together with the involved state agencies of the Republic of Kazakhstan to discuss the agreement text, and at present the consultations on the harmonization of the draft agreement on the electricity distribution and fuel supply proceed with the Russian side,” – the document text confirms.
As the Deputy Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakhytzhan Dzhaksaliyev stated earlier, the potential sites have already been defined for the construction of nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan - in East Kazakhstan and Almaty region.
