Russia will provide military aid to Tajikistan for $1.2 billion

Almaty. April 3. Silkroadnews - Russia will provide military assistance to Tajikistan in the amount of $1.2 billion, Russian media reported.
It is noted that an agreement on the modernization of the armed forces of Tajikistan was reached in the summer of 2014, but the amount of aid became known only now. Nomenclature agreed arms, but delivery has not yet begun.
According to the publication, Tajikistan within the framework of the CSTO will receive assistance - wide range of weapons, ranging from communications equipment, small arms and ammunition, and ending with the aircraft, artillery and anti-aircraft missile launchers. Basically weapon parts will be shipped from the Ministry of Defense of Russia.
On the eve at a meeting of foreign ministers in Dushanbe CSTO member states was discussed the danger posed by the terrorist group "Islamic State" recognized in the Russian Federation as extremist. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov acknowledged that Tajikistan faces a growing threat due to destabilization of the situation in neighboring Afghanistan. Islamists, including militants of IS already penetrate through Tajikistan border which is not well controlled, said Lavrov.
