Russian Railways to start electrification of railway line in Iran

Beijing. Jul 3. Silkroadnews - Russian Railways start work on electrification of the railway line Garmsar- Incheboron in Iran, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reports.
The 1.2-billion-euro project by the Russian Railways provides for the electrification of the Garmsar-Incheboron railway line with supply of maintenance vehicles and 40 locomotives. It will be financed from the state export credit by the government of Russia to the government of Iran.
According to O. Belozerov, president of Russian Railways, the electrification of the line gives a significant economic effect: due to a double increase in speed, the capacity will quadruple to 10 million tonnes per year.
The project has been designed for 4 years and 4 months. It provides electrification of the Garmsar-Incheboron railway line with a total length of 495 kilometers, including 203 kilometers in the highlands, 31 stations and 95 tunnels.
