Beijing. Jul 13. Silkroadnews - According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), car sales in China have beaten expectations, rising 5.6% year-on-year to 14.06 million vehicles, Sina.com reports.
Last month, the growth in sales and production of cars remained stable. In June, vehicle sales rose 4.8% from a year earlier to 2.27 million vehicles.
“The 5.6 percent sales growth rate in the first half of this year is 1.8 percentage points faster than that of the previous year. The overall performance in the first six months was better than what we expected at the beginning of this year,” the agency cited CAAM report.
The growth in sales in H1 was due, mainly, to stable sales of new-energy vehicles and growing demand in the market under conditions of stable economic situation.
New-energy vehicles continued to be the focus of the world’ s largest car market. In the first six months of the year, production of new energy vehicles increased 94.9% year-on-year to 413,000, while the number of vehicles sold grew 111.5% year-on-year to 412,000 units.
From January to June, electric vehicle sales rose 96% to 313,000 units year-on-year. Sales of hybrid cars increased 181.6% compared to a year earlier to 99,000 units.
