Security has been strengthened across the country’s airports in Kazakhstan

Almaty. July 19. Silkroadnews – Security has been strengthened across the country’s airports in Kazakhstan, KazTAG reports with reference to the press service of the Civil Aviation Committee under the country’s ministry for investment and development.

According to the press-service, these measures are taken due to the terrorist attack in Almaty.

“Civil Aviation Committee instructed JSC “Almaty International Airport” to undertake actions on the basis of a generic plan to strengthen security measures according to the security threat level (instructions (program) on the Aviation Safety of Civil Aviation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, approved by the Government Decree dated August 27, 2011, №973 ADI),” press release published on Monday states.

The instructions on strengthening of the measures, as related to the extension of “yellow” level of threat throughout the country and act of terrorism that happened in Almaty, has been sent to all the airports and airlines of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The firefight was registered in Almaty on Monday.  According to the Interior Ministry, six police officers and three civilians, including the perpetrator, got injured. As a result of the attacks five people were killed – a civilian, a border guard and three policemen.

The attacker, 27, a native of Kyzylorda region (southern Kazakhstan), has been detained. Previously convicted he is also suspected of commission of murder of the woman on the recent weekend.

The Interior Ministry said the attacker’s motive of crime was the revenge to the law enforcement agencies.

Kazakhstan’s president Nursultan Nazarbayev has called the events in Almaty as a terrorist attack and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
