Seven Russian aircraft destroyed in Syria
Almaty. January 4. Silkroadnews - The destruction of several Russian planes at the air base of Khmeimim in Syria is reported by the media with reference to military-diplomatic sources, the Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reports on Thursday.
As internet magazines wrote with reference to the Russian daily Kommersant, on December 31 Islamist militants attacked the Russian airbase. As a result of mortar shelling, four Su-24 front-line bombers, two Su-35S multipurpose fighter aircraft and one An-72 military transport aircraft were destroyed. Also, the militants destroyed an ammunition depot detonated after the mortar shell hit.
More than ten servicemen could get injuries. Kommersant does not say whether there were Russians among the wounded. The Russian defense ministry did not comment on the incident.
