Almaty. October 27. Silkroadnews – On October 25 Beijing hosted the III International Forum on development of transport in metropolitan cities, newspaper “People’s Daily” reports.

According to Zhou Zhenyu, Director of the Beijing Municipal Transport Commission, road traffic congestion problems in the city will be solved through the use of legal, economic, scientific and relevant administrative measures.

“From 2018 to 2020 the maximum annual increase in number of vehicles makes 100 thousand units. Congestion relieving will be based on legal settlement measures”, the publication says.

As noted by Zhou Zhenyu, despite a slowdown in growth of population and number of vehicles observed in recent years, the transport demand for road networks capacity continues to grow along with economic development of society.

Meanwhile, serious problems have been observed in the transport infrastructure and services. For a long period of time the contradiction between supply and demand in the field of traffic remains a major challenge the Chinese capital faces with the road transport situation.

Due to the decree “On the phased implementation of the clean air action plan by city authorities” to reduce the intensity of car use and reduce pollutant emissions by the end of 2017 the total number of vehicles, as planned, should not exceed 6 million units.

Currently, the total annual quota for cars is 150 thousand, of which 90 thousand units for ordinary vehicles and 60 thousand for vehicles functioning on new types of energy sources.
