Strategic port of Iran in August will begin to accept large vessels
Tehran. July 29. Silkroadnews - Strategic port Iran in late August will begin to accept large vessels, the Iranian news agency reported on Tuesday.
"In a month, we plan a completion of dredging within the port complex. Chabahar port can begin to accept larger vessels over 50 million tons" - says the publication.
The head of the Port and Navigation of southern Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan Sievush Ridvan, mentioned that these works are carried out in response to numerous requests of cargo holders.
According S.Rizvani, overall volume of loading and unloading operations at the port of Chabahar in the first four months of this year (from March 21 to July 22, 2014) increased by 65% compared to the same period last year.
Over this period the port handled 27 vessels, and volume of loading and unloading operations amounted to 741 thousand tons of oil and 984 non-oil products. The number of processed containers increased by 226% and their total weight by 155%.
Chabahar port is located at the junction of the Gulf of Oman and the Indian Ocean. It is the only seaport of Iran, having direct access to the world's oceans.
