Almaty. July 13. Silkroadnews – This year’s summer grain harvest in China totaled 139.26 million tonnes, having reduced 1.62 million tonnes or 1.2% compared to the previous year, Chinese media reports with reference to the National Bureau of Statistics of China.

In 2016 the total sown area of summer grain made 27.632 million hectares, which is by 7.1 thousand hectares or 0.03% higher than in 2015. Yet this summer grain yield made 5039.7 kg per hectare, which is 60 kg lower compared to last year.

According to the specialist of the National Bureau of Statistics, the reasons behind such decline are reduction of crop yields, bad weather and natural disaster. Heavy rainfalls in some grain producing areas have resulted in lower quality wheat, provoked diseases and pests.
